Sometimes, the simplest coffee brewing methods yield the best results. That's certainly true for French Press coffee. As a long-time French pressed-coffee enthusiast, I've found that you don't need complicated techniques to brew a great, full-bodied cup. Let's dive into how you can make a delicious press pot (another name for French Press) quickly and easily.

Check out this quick French Press video and read on for all the details.

Essential Equipment for Brewing French Press Coffee

Finding The Perfect Coffee-to-Water Ratio

  • Standard ratio: 10 level tablespoons of coffee for a 34-ounce French Press

  • Adjust to taste: more coffee for a stronger brew, less for a milder cup — try one tablespoon in either direction at a time

  • Grind size: Use a coarse grind (sea salt texture) for best results – if using pre-ground store bought coffee you may end up needing to brew for a shorter time or with less coffee since this is a usually a smaller grind size

Let’s Go: Steps for My French Press Method

  • Pre-warm your French Press with warm water; pour water into your mug after 1 minute to warm it up

  • Boil filtered water in a kettle - I like these two options: Bonvita and Fellow Stagg

  • Add 10 level tablespoons of coarse-ground coffee to your French Press

  • Fill 1/2 your French Press with hot water, start a timer, wait 1 minute

  • Stir to ensure all grounds are saturated

  • Fill French Press to about 1/2 inch below the spout

  • Put the lid on, but don't press the plunger down

  • At the 4-minute mark, gently press the plunger down

  • Wait 30 to 60 seconds for sediment to settle

  • Gently pour your coffee into your mug – avoiding pouring coffee sediment into the mug – and enjoy

Conclusion

That’s how you master a manual coffee maker like the French Press without special tools, folks. Give it a try. If you want to take it up a notch and get precise with your French Press, check this blog post out.

Until next time… Peace. ✌️
